A True Wilderness Escape in Finnish Lapland

Built in the 1960s, Munhaissaari Wilderness Cabin is located on one of the 3,300 islands of Lake Inari in Finnish Lapland. It is the only building on the island—there are no neighbours, no roads, and no other cabins. Just you, the lake, and the surrounding wilderness.

If you’re looking for complete privacy and an authentic wilderness experience, it’s hard to find a more peaceful place.

Life here is simple. Fetch your water from the well or directly from the lake, chop firewood, heat the stove, and settle into the slower pace of life that has been part of the Finnish wilderness for generations.

A Traditional Off-Grid Cabin

Munhaissaari is a traditional log cabin with everything you need for a comfortable stay in the wilderness while preserving its original character.

The cabin has a well-equipped kitchen with a gas stove, a refrigerator, and a dishwashing sink during the summer season. You’ll also find books and board games for quiet evenings after a day spent outdoors.

The cabin sleeps two people and is ideal for couples or solo travellers looking for a peaceful retreat in Finnish Lapland. A 220V solar-powered electricity system provides power for lighting and charging essential devices from late February until late October.

Wood-Fired Sauna & Lake Inari

After a day exploring the island or fishing on Lake Inari, heat the wood-fired sauna and enjoy a swim in the clear waters of the lake.

Lake Inari offers excellent fishing, clean water, and endless opportunities to explore by boat. During summer, the Midnight Sun keeps the days going around the clock, while autumn and winter often bring spectacular displays of the Northern Lights.

Your Own Island to Explore

The entire island is yours.

Walk through old pine forests, explore the shoreline, fish from the rocks, paddle around nearby islands, or simply sit by the lake and enjoy the silence. There are no schedules, no crowds, and no distractions—only the changing seasons of Finnish Lapland.

Munhaissaari is an ideal base for hikers, anglers, photographers, and anyone looking to experience one of the most remote and peaceful parts of Lake Inari.

Boat & Snowmobile Rentals

During the summer, you can rent a motorboat and explore the thousands of islands that make Lake Inari one of Finland’s most remarkable wilderness destinations.

In winter, a snowmobile gives you the freedom to travel across the frozen lake and discover the Arctic landscape in a completely different way.

Whether you visit under the Midnight Sun or the Northern Lights, Munhaissaari Wilderness Cabin offers something increasingly rare: your own island, complete privacy, and the chance to experience the Finnish wilderness much as it has been for generations.
