Experience Lake Inari with a Local
Spend a day on Lake Inari with a local guide and experience everyday life in Finnish Lapland. This private tour takes you beyond the usual tourist attractions and into the traditions, stories, and landscapes that have shaped life in the north for generations.
Your guide, who has decades of experience hunting, fishing, and hiking in Lapland, will take you across the frozen lake by snowmobile and sleigh. Sit back on a reindeer hide, wrap yourself in a warm blanket, and enjoy the journey across one of Finland’s most beautiful wilderness areas. If needed, warm winter clothing will be provided for the day.
Explore the Winter Wilderness
The day includes a guided snowshoe walk on one of Lake Inari’s islands. Along the way, your guide will tell you about local wildlife, nature, and life in the north while pointing out animal tracks and signs of the surrounding wilderness.
From the island, you’ll enjoy wide views across Lake Inari and its countless islands.
Ice Fishing the Traditional Way
One of the highlights of the day is learning how locals fish during the winter.
You’ll help lift traditional gill nets from beneath the ice and see what the lake has to offer. This is a hands-on experience—you’ll take part in pulling the nets and learn how winter fishing has been practised in Lapland for generations.
You’ll also try ice fishing yourself by drilling your own hole in the ice and testing your luck.
Lunch by the Fire
While you’re fishing, your guide will prepare a meal over an open fire.
If the day’s catch is successful, fresh fish will be part of your lunch. Otherwise, you’ll enjoy a traditional Finnish outdoor meal prepared over the fire.
On particularly cold or windy days (below -20°C), a heated tent will be available where you can warm up and enjoy your meal in comfort.
